Research Interests

I am working in area of biomedical materials. I use solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to investigate structure of various glasses, cements and apatites. Solid-state NMR is extremely powerful technique to study structure of solids in particular, amorphous solids, and equally informative for crystalline solids. We study structure of bioactive silicate and phosphate glasses containing halogen and other components. We also investigate the setting reactions in various dental and bone cements including glass ionomer cements, calcium, magnesium and zinc phosphate cements using solid-state NMR. We study structure and properties of dental glass ceramics and various substitutions in apatites. Using solid-state NMR in combination with other techniques we also study structure of teeth, bones and other natural apatites. We apply our knowledge on structure of various biomaterials for designing materials for specific biomedical applications. I supervise PhD students and MSc research projects.
